2022 Toyota 4Runner

The 4Runner lineup has a trim for every driver’s needs. Starting with the SR5 with LED headlights and roof rails and moving to the new TRD Sport with 20-inch wheels and a hood scoop. Then there’s the Trail Special Edition which has 17-inch dark gray alloy wheels and a Yakima cargo basket. Choosing the SR5 Premium gives you the option to add a sunroof, or the TRD Off-Road 17-inch wheels, the hood scoop, and a locking rear differential. The TRD Off-Road Premium adds the optional sunroof and the extras from the SR5 Premium.

The high-end Limited comes with 20-inch wheels, a locking center differential, a sunroof, LED high beam headlights, chrome exterior trim elements, and it offers the option for power-deployable running boards. Choosing the TRD Pro gets you 17-inch wheels and off-road tires, a sunroof, all-terrain tires, and a front skid plate.

Every 2022 4Runner gets power from a 4.0-liter V-6 gas engine that puts out 270 horsepower and generates 278 pound-feet of torque. It works with Toyota's five-speed automatic transmission and comes with rear-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive is also available for any of the 4Runner models.

The 4Runner already has a reputation for excellent off-road capabilities, but Toyota made it more on-road friendly with the new TRD Sport this go around. This trim has an upgraded chassis for a more comfortable on-road ride, and it comes with the Cross-Linked Relative Absorber System suspension to smooth out rough pavement. The TRD Off-Road adds off-road performance features such as hill start assist, multi-terrain select, active traction control, and crawl control.

The 4Runner comes standard with two rows and room for five, but a third row is optional in several trims if you’d like more seating room. Cabin features include a power-adjustable driver's seat, cloth upholstery, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Moving up through the trims, you can add a power-adjustable passenger seat, driver's seat memory settings, and leather upholstery. The high-end Limited adds even more extras such as heated and ventilated front seats.

Technology features for the 4Runner start with an 8-inch touch screen, Toyota's infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, and a 115-volt power outlet. Navigation comes in the SR5 Premium and up, and if you move up to the Limited, it has a JBL stereo system.

Every 2022 4Runner comes with the Toyota Safety Sense group of safety aids in addition to a rearview camera. Safety Sense comes with forward collision alert, automatic braking in emergencies, adaptive cruise control, and pedestrian detection. It also comes with lane-departure warning and automatic high beam headlights. All 4Runners also have a full suite of air bags, traction and stability control, and anti-lock brakes.
