While still maintaining its iconic sedan styling that consumers recognize as part of the Corolla family, Toyota has created a sleeker version of this beloved car.

The front of the 2022 Corolla features a slim center bar that melds into wing-shaped LED headlights. Below, you'll find a massive grille that helps to give the Toyota Corolla contemporary styling. A sloping windshield sweeps back along the raked roof to the sporty rear of the Corolla.

The 2022 Corolla comes with two engine options depending on the trims. Under the hood of the L, LE, and XLE is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder DOHC engine with an output of 139 horsepower and 126 pound-feet of torque. Move up to the SE and other trims to get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder DOHC engine delivering a more powerful 169 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. Both engines pair with a continuously variable transmission, or the 2.0-liter engine can come with an optional six-speed manual transmission.

With responsive steering due to its electric power-assist rack-and-pinion steering system, it's a breeze maneuvering the Corolla through city traffic and on winding roads. You'll notice how smooth the car handles with its front-wheel drive, independent MacPherson front struts, multilink rear suspension, and front and back stabilizer bars. Except for the L and LE trims, the 2022 Corolla comes with two selectable drive modes, Normal and Sport.

Up to five people ride in comfort on the two rows of seats found inside of the Corolla. The lower trims get premium fabric seats while the upper trims come with supple SofTex material. Luxury features include multi-adjustable heated front seats with lumbar support, a leather-trimmed tilt/telescopic steering wheel, and a dust and pollen filter built into the car's climate-control system.

Except for the base L trim which comes with a 7-inch touch screen, the other trims have an 8-inch touch screen that comes with Toyota's infotainment system. Key features of this technology include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa integration, Bluetooth, and a subscription-based Wi-Fi hot spot connection. A premium nine-speaker JBL audio system comes standard on the upper trims and is available for the lower tiers.

As part of Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 driver-assist technology, the 2022 Corolla comes equipped with a pre-collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking. Additional safety features included in this bundle include automatic high-beam headlights, full-speed range dynamic cruise control, a lane mitigation system, and road sign assist.
