2022 Toyota Corolla Cross

The exterior design of the 2022 Corolla Cross features modern lines and flared fenders to give it a bold but sleek look. The entry-level Corolla Cross is the L. It comes with LED projector headlights, 17-inch steel wheels, and LED taillights. Stepping up to the LE gets you 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and keyless entry. The top-level Corolla Cross is the XLE. It has LED daytime running lights, LED fog lights, and 18-inch alloy wheels with a black-painted machined finish.

Power for all Corolla Cross models comes from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine. It delivers 169 horsepower and gets 151 pound-feet of torque. It uses a continuously variable automatic transmission and offers both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

The comfort-tuned suspension for the Corolla Cross does an excellent job smoothing out the road, and the available multi-link suspension optimizes ride quality and adds to its handling performance. When equipped with the available tow hitch, it can pull up to 1,500 pounds. The CVT for the Corolla Cross is one of the best you can get. It uses an actual first gear when traveling at low speeds before the CVT technology takes over. This means smooth and efficient acceleration from a stop.

The Corolla Cross has two rows of seats and room for five. Behind all the seats, there's a 26.5 cubic foot cargo area, which opens to over 66 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. The cargo space drops slightly with the all-wheel-drive modes. Cloth upholstery comes standard in the first two trims, and the LE adds a leather-trimmed steering wheel. The XLE has simulated leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped shift knob, and heated front seats. A 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat also comes in the XLE, which is an upgrade from the manually-adjustable seats in the L and LE.

Standard technology features start with a 7-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo system, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa. The Corolla Cross also comes standard with Bluetooth and two USB ports. Step up to the LE for wireless charging and two more USB ports, while the XLE adds a 7-inch information display for the driver.

Every Corolla Cross comes with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 for a full suite of driver safety aids. This group includes pre-collision alert, automatic braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and a rear cross-traffic alert system come in the LE, and the XLE adds front and rear parking sensors, as well as a reverse automatic braking system.
