2023 Toyota bZ4X

The bZ4X will come in two trim levels at its initial release. The base XLE will have 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, a panoramic glass roof with a power sunshade, keyless entry, and LED taillights. It will also have heated and power-adjustable side exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a rear spoiler. A step up to the Limited gets you 20-inch wheels, a foot-activated height-adjustable hands-free power liftgate, and LED projector headlights.

Toyota bZ4X models with a single electric motor will get 201 horsepower and come with front-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive models will use two electric motors that combine to increase power to 215 horses. A 63.4-kWh battery pack in the single-motor models will get you up to a 252-mile range, and the all-wheel-drive versions will go up to 228 miles before needing a charge.

As expected from an electric powertrain, acceleration in the bZ4x is quick with both the front or all-wheel drive setup, but the dual-motor version will get to 60 mph in just 6.4 seconds. The ride in this new crossover stays smooth and compliant over any road. The regenerative braking system helps to capture power by slowing the car down just by lifting your foot off the accelerator. If you plan on driving over rough terrain, the all-wheel-drive models have an X-Mode with settings for snow and dirt.

Inside, there's room for up to five in the bZ4X. The cabin feels open and spacious and features a wide center console in the front with plenty of open storage. The XLE trim has a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a soft-touch fabric-covered dashboard, and one-touch windows. It also has simulated leather upholstery and manually adjustable front seats. The Limited adds a heated steering wheel, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and heated and ventilated front seats.

Technology in the bZ4X starts with a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen in the center of the dash, a digital instrument panel, wireless charging, a six-speaker stereo, navigation, and Toyota's smartphone app with remote connectivity. The Limited trim adds a digital key.

Both bZ4X trims come with Toyota's Safety Sense 3.0 suite. This latest version of the safety bundle includes lane-departure warning with steering assist, adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assist, automatic high beam headlights, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, and traffic sign recognition. It also includes automatic high-beam headlights, a pre-collision warning system with daylight motorcycle detection and low-light cyclist detection, and a guardrail detection feature.

Other safety features include a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking, the Toyota Safe Exit system, and automatic high-beam headlights.
