2023 Toyota Corolla Hatchback

The Toyota Corolla Hatchback is available in only two trim levels: the base SE and the more upscale and sporty XSE. The hatchback features LED headlights and taillights and either 16- or 18-inch alloy wheels depending on the trim level, while the XSE adds LED fog lights to the package. Colors include Blue Crush Metallic, Wind Chill Pearl, Ice Cap, Classic Silver Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Midnight Black Metallic, Finish Line Red, Inferno, and a variety of the above in two-tone paired with a Midnight Black Metallic roof.

Every Toyota Corolla Hatchback is powered by a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that generates 168 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is mated to a continuously variable transmission. All models are front-wheel drive. This does mean that the available manual transmission from prior years has been discontinued. Still, the engine has plenty of power to get you wherever you need to go with authority when you step on the gas.

The latest Corolla Hatchback is what Toyota calls a “driver's hatchback,” which seamlessly combines sporty controllability with comfort. It starts with an aluminum and ultra-high-tensile steel platform and a MacPherson strut front suspension to offer a smoother ride and outstanding mitigation of bumps and jars on uneven roads, while the multi-link rear suspension prioritizes agility. Behind the back seats, you will get 17.8 cubic feet of space. If you need to fit longer items in the vehicle, you can fold the back seats down. Passengers will receive 38.4 inches of headroom and 42 inches of legroom in the front seats, and 37.6 inches of headroom with 29.9 inches of legroom in the back seats. The multimedia technology driven by a central 8-inch touchscreen features an ultrafast processor, snappy responses, and crisp graphics, plus an intuitive interface with standard smartphone integration, plus an available 4G Wi-Fi hotspot.

All Corolla hatchbacks come with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 package. At the SE level, this includes adaptive cruise control to keep you at a preset distance from the car in front of you, front collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping systems to keep you centered, and automatic high beams. Optionally, you can add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic warnings for extra eyes when changing lanes. At the XSE level, blind-spot monitoring becomes a standard feature.
