2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD SportThe Toyota 4Runner is back for the 2022 model year with an all-new trim — the TRD Sport. This addition joins Toyota’s three other TRD trims, designed to go off-roading. If you’re wondering why you should be interested, here’s a look at what the 2022 4Runner TRD Sport promises drivers!

Stylish Exterior

As its name suggests, the 4Runner TRD Sport is a sporty variation of this large SUV. It features reinforced body-on-frame construction and sports exterior elements like machine-faced 20-inch wheels with dark gray accents, color-keyed accents such as door handles, rear spoiler, a TRD-style hood scoop on the front spoiler, and power outside mirrors. Body molding and rocker panels add unique styling while black rails accent the roof.

In addition, special TRD Sport badging sets this trim apart, as well as standard LED high beams. Optional equipment for this trim includes a sliding rear cargo deck with an under-floor storage compartment and automatic running boards.

Improved Power and Performance

The 2022 TRD Sport comes with the 4Runner’s standard engine — a 4.0-liter V-6 with dual independent variable valve timing (VVT). It’s rated at 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. This engine is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission; you have the option of rear-wheel drive or part-time four-wheel drive.

The TRD Sport offers up to 9.6 inches of ground clearance, which enables it to tackle off-road paths with ease. The Cross-Linked Relative Absorber System (X-REAS) Sport enhancement suspension improves on-road handling around corners and over bumpy terrain.

When properly equipped, the TRD Sport can tow up to 5,000 pounds, and can go from zero to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds. Fuel efficiency is estimated at 16 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.

Comfortable Interior

The TRD Sport features two rows of seating upholstered with a stylish SofTex trimming. The front row seats are heated and power-adjustable. Expect 40/20/40 split reclining and fold-flat seats in the second row. Other interior amenities include a leather-trimmed telescoping steering wheel, TRD shift knob, and TRD Sport carpet mats. A panoramic view monitor is optional.

High-Tech Infotainment

An 8-inch multimedia touch screen is included on the TRD Sport as standard, along with AM/FM radio, Bluetooth wireless technology, and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa compatibility. It features a standard eight-speaker audio system, with the option of a Premium Audio. Four USB ports are located throughout the cabin, so you can keep your devices charged. Other standard features include advanced voice recognition, hands-free capability, and a USB media port.

Safety and Security

Toyota Safety Sense P comes standard on the TRD Sport. It equips the vehicle with many driver-assist features including automatic high beams for improved visibility, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert, and dynamic radar cruise control.

Eight airbags are strategically placed inside the cabin to protect passengers in the event of a collision. With the optional Technology Package, the TRD Sport gets a blind-spot monitor rear cross-traffic alert.
