The advanced safety system has been implemented across Toyota’s lineup, bringing us that much closer to self-driving vehicles of the future, but what’s included in the package and how can it help your family feel safer? more Safety Sense Available at Varying Price Points With a mind to across-the-board safety, Toyota is offering the Safety Sense package at reasonable price levels on all the company’s latest models to encourage widespread use. These include the Safety Sense C package designed for compact cars and the Safety Sense P, which is designed for midsize and more expensive vehicles. This strategy allows buyers at all price points to take advantage of the new technology. What’s Included in a Safety Sense Package? Features vary by Toyota model, but the new active safety package includes things like a pre-collision warning system, lane departure alert, automatic high beams, and dynamic radar cruise control. Compact vehicles using the Safety Sense C package, for instance, offer three active safety technologies: the pre-collision system, lane departure alert, and automatic high beams. Pre-Collision Technology The new pre-collision system (PCS) uses a forward-facing radar and camera that scan the road in front of the car, helping you avoid a potential collision. This system detects markings on the road and can alert you if you start to drift out of your lane. This system also features an indicator light on the instrument panel as well as an audible beeping sound that encourages you to take the appropriate action. Auto High Beams Auto High Beams (AHB) make nighttime driving easier by providing you with optimal visibility without you having to manually change the high beams. The system switches between high and low beams based on an oncoming vehicle’s headlights. Pedestrian Detection Toyota’s Pedestrian Detection (PD) feature combines millimeter-wave radar technology with a shape-recognizing camera that can detect pedestrians under certain conditions. This system will also alert you to prevent a possible collision. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control DRCC, as it’s commonly called, is similar to conventional cruise control, but it does so much more than that. Starting at around $25,000, the traditional (or standard) Prius offers all of the basic features of the Prius C but also keyless ignition, a navigation system, a rearview camera, automatic headlight, and a long list of safety features. It also provides the same gas mileage for drivers as the Prius C does at 50 mpg.
