Toyota powers Yellowstone

It can be difficult to find a company whose actions match their promises to protect the environment. Fortunately, Toyota is willing to put their money where their mouth is - providing reliable, sustainable, zero-emission power to the immaculate Yellowstone Park. Completed in 2015, Toyota partnered with Indy Power Systems, Sharp USA SolarWorld, Patriot Solar, National Park Service, and Yellowstone Park Foundation to create an innovative solution for providing sustainable power generation to Yellowstone. The goal: maintain the pristine condition of the remote park as completely as possible. The solution: 208 used Camry Hybrid battery packs storing renewable electricity generated by solar panels! Thanks to the collaborated effort, Yellowstone Park’s ranger station and education center at the Lamar Buffalo Ranch in Lamar Valley are now run by renewable energy for the first time since its founding in 1907. more Toyota hopes to use the ranch as a model for environmental stewardship and create sustainable energy systems to power other remote locations. The repurposing of used hybrid batteries after their automotive lives have ended has an additional benefit: the batteries still retain significant storage capabilities and upcycling them extends their use to double the overall lifespan of hybrid batteries. Just another example of how Toyota is working to negate the environmental effects of their vehicles! Speaking of – Toyota had done extensive work with Yellowstone National Park and the Yellowstone Park Foundation. Providing financial backing for the Old Faithful Visitor Education Center to the tune of 1 million dollars, as well as 4 Priuses, 1 Camry hybrid, and 1 Highlander hybrid to Yellowstone’s fleet, Toyota has shown they take the belief that they have a responsibility to help manage resources seriously. One excellent example is their use of the Japanese concept genchi genbutsu, which translates to “real location, real thing”. This key principle of the Toyota Production System believes that to fully grasp a problem and then solve it quickly and efficiently, one must first confirm the facts and then analyze root causes. By applying this concept of “go and see”, Toyota was able to help Yellowstone recognize its goal to become energy-independent of fossil fuels. The Yellowstone sustainable energy system, harnessing used hybrid batteries, is the first of its kind – but Toyota is already working on how to implement and improve this model for other locations. As more partnerships are formed and new models created, Toyota is determined to be on the front lines of innovation. As the Chief Executive Officer for Toyota North America, Jim Lentz, so eloquently put it, “the opportunities are endless”. And Toyota is excited to be pioneering the path forward. Keep Your Toyota in Tip Top Shape with These Helpful Tips

Maintaining your Toyota over time is important for several reasons. It keeps the vehicle safe, improves its reliability and performance, saves you money on expensive repairs down the line, and increases its resale value! Here are six tips for keeping your Toyota in top shape. Get Regular Oil Changes Maintaining the correct amount of oil in your Toyota's engine helps keep it lubricated and prevents overheating. Whether you do it yourself or take it in to the dealer, change the oil at the recommended interval in your driver's manual. You might need to change your oil more frequently if you drive in heavy traffic, dusty conditions, or for short trips that don't allow the engine to warm up. more Replace the Air Filter An air filter prevents contaminants and debris from getting into your Toyota's engine and must be changed periodically. A dirty filter can lower your Toyota‘s fuel efficiency, reduce engine performance, and lead to higher engine emissions. If you need to replace it with a new one, check your owner's manual or have a vehicle technician show you how to access and inspect it visually. You might need to change it more frequently after long road trips or if you drive in stop-and-go traffic. Stick to the Recommended Fuel When filling up with gas, always choose the fuel type with the recommended octane rating for your Toyota. Again, you can find this in the owner's manual. Using lower-octane fuel can reduce performance and fuel efficiency and cause engine damage. Using higher-octane fuel is likely just a waste of money. Use Car-Friendly Cleaning Products When detailing your Toyota, make sure you're using products that are appropriate for car surfaces. Reach for car wash soaps, waxes, and drying towels that won't harm your Toyota’s paint job. Clean off potentially harmful blemishes such as insect bodies and bird droppings before they have a chance to damage the paint. Proper cleaning supplies will help keep your car looking as shiny as the day you drove it off the lot! Take Care of Your Tires Your tires have more impact on your car's condition than you might think, so you'll want to take steps to keep them in top shape. Check the tire pressure regularly — particularly between changes in season or temperature. Under- or overinflated tires can affect fuel economy, comfort, and handling. You can do this with a simple tire pressure tool or through your Toyota's built-in tire-pressure-monitoring system. Look for the sticker inside the driver's door to find your tires' recommended pressure. Also, have your tires rotated and aligned regularly. This will help them last longer, keep you safe on the road, and contribute to better fuel economy. Clean Your Wheels Any time you notice that grimy-looking brake dust starting to gather on your wheels, use water and a soft sponge to clean it off. Brake dust is comprised of iron, carbon, and dirt than can permanently stain your wheels if left on too long. Keep your Toyota looking and feeling like new with these DIY and regular service tips. Basic maintenance keeps you safe and your car running smoother, and can also improve the vehicle's resale value! Image via crash71100 | Licensed under CC0 1.0

Best in Town recipient | Priority Toyota Chesapeake in Chesapeake, VA

Priority Toyota Chesapeake Wins Prestigious National "Best in Town" Award

While many businesses may talk frequently about their commitment to the community, as the saying goes: actions speak louder than words. more Priority Toyota Chesapeake was recently awarded the Toyota Motor Corporation’s prestigious national award, ‘Best in Town’, which is bestowed upon only one Toyota dealership out of the entire United States each year. We are honored by the recognition. Beginning in 2018, the Priority Inmate Technician Training Program has been working with the Norfolk Sheriff’s Department and Tidewater Community College to train non-violent Norfolk City Jail inmates as automobile technicians. Priority Automotive Owner and President Dennis Ellmer emphasized how this collaboration was “a total team effort by many people including Governor Ralph Northam, Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander, Sheriff Joe Baron, and the incredible staff at Tidewater Community College”. 14 of the program’s initial 15 trainees completed the program and graduated from Tidewater Community College in May. All are now full-time Priority employees – and a new class of trainees is ready to begin the program. The ‘Best in Town’ award was established by Toyota Motor Corporation President Akio Toyoda in 2014 and is given to just one United States Toyota dealership each year. The award’s annual recipient is chosen by the people working with local customers every day, the local dealerships. President Toyoda’s explanation for this decision process is “Everyone says Toyota is the best company in the world, but the customer doesn’t care about the world. They care if we are the best in town or not. That’s what I want to be.” "To be the only Toyota dealership in the nation selected to receive this award is truly a great honor," said Dennis Ellmer. "Our company is proud of these men, and proud of this program's ability to help them make a difference in their lives. This award is a win for them, too, along with our entire community." We are honored to have been chosen to receive this distinguished award. We truly believe by working together we can improve the world – one community at a time.
