Birdwatching | Priority Toyota Chesapeake in Chesapeake, VAOne great way to get out into nature and get a full appreciation of the wildlife that our area is host to is to do some birdwatching. All sorts of these beautiful, feathered creatures can be found right here in and around our hometown. Check out these spots in Chesapeake, VA that each offer a great way to venture into the soothing outdoors without going too far from your own neighborhood.

1. Oak Grove Lake Park

65 acres of space for outdoor activities, including a 1.5-mile path that winds around the nearby lake, make Oak Grove Lake Park a lovely spot to enjoy the outdoors in our area. The dense canopy of trees overhead provides you with ample shade as you watch for the birds that frequent the lake.

2. Indian River Park

Miles and miles of biking and hiking trails give you plenty of room to explore when you visit Indian River Park, with a peaceful stream to admire the sights and sounds of. The water attracts plenty of our local wildlife as visitors, including geese and other waterfowl.

3. Paradise Creek

Bird lovers will appreciate this oasis in the middle of the built-up area around it, which provides the perfect place for flocks to congregate for your viewing pleasure. The park around Paradise Creek is also the perfect place to bring your dog for a walk, so take man’s best friend out with you on your excursion to make the day even more enjoyable!

4. Great Bridge Lock Park

This island park provides a unique environment for you to do some birding in, with great views of the bridge that spans the water nearby. There’s also a boat ramp here, giving you the opportunity to go out on the water to get an even better view of the birds soaring overhead.

5. Northwest River Park

Open year-round, you can watch the seasons change and the different birds that come at different times of the year when you visit Northwest River Park. There are also campsites here, so you can bring your tent along and make a whole day out of your birding adventure!

6. Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve

Serene views of the nearby water make Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve a must-see destination in our area. Among all the wildlife that uses this sanctuary as a home, there are dozens of different avian species that frequent the area, making this a great destination for birdwatchers.

7. Chesapeake Arboretum

Forest trails and gardens provide plenty of scenic walking areas for you to enjoy the great outdoors at Chesapeake Arboretum. The greenery also makes the perfect home for plenty of birdlife, making this another great spot for you to admire the beautiful creatures that fill our area’s skies.
