blog 36For 2017 Toyota is replacing the Prius Plug-in with the all new Prius Prime. This new model offers better fuel efficiency and new technology to make it even better than its predecessor. Here are some features that make the Prius Prime so great and how it stacks up to the competition.

Fuel Efficiency

Toyota promises that the Prius Prime has a total range of about 640 miles, which is much longer than the Chevy Volt’s 420 miles. The 2017 Prius comes with a newly designed plug-in hybrid powertrain outfitted with a 1.8-liter Atkinson engine and two electric motors. The 8.8-kilowatt lithium-ion-battery is much larger than the previous battery, with enough energy to allow the vehicle to travel 22 miles on pure EV power.

Price

The new Prius Prime comes at a good price. It is $6,000 less than the Volt and much cheaper than the Tesla Model 3. The Prius is also available in 50 states, making it easier to get than some of the other hybrid models.

Interior Technology

Inside the Prime, you’ll find a huge 11.6-inch touch screen that looks a lot like a tablet. It comes with intuitive pinch capabilities along with tapping and swiping features that work much like a smartphone so you can easily access the information you need or want. It also comes with Toyota’s Entune infotainment system with integrated apps. Toyota equipped the Prime with additional technology such as remote climate control. You can use an app on your phone to check the temperature inside the car before you get in and change it before your trip for maximum comfort throughout your entire ride.

Choice of Trim Levels

The new Prius Prime comes in three different trim levels, making it simple to choose the car that fits your lifestyle. The mid-level Premium trim offers features not found on other mid-level vehicles, such as Qi-compatible wireless charging for your smartphone and a smart charging cable lock. Bump up to the Advanced trim for a head-up display in color that shows you important vehicle information on the windshield right below eye level so you can check your speed and see the car’s performance statistics without taking your eyes off the road.

Safety

The Prius stands apart by making advanced safety systems standard in all the trims. This includes driver assistance technology such as active cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Toyota’s Safety Sense P is standard with lane departure warning, steering assist to help you stay in your lane, and a pre-collision system that will detect pedestrians in your path. While other hybrid vehicles offer this technology, it is only an available option and not standard on all the trims.

While there are plenty of hybrid vehicles out there to choose from right now (and even more in the works), the Prius Prime offers some of the best technology and driving distance at the lowest price. This vehicle reduces emissions by 100 percent and will save you money at the pump whether you commute to work or just need to get around town.
