Located about 25 miles southeast of Hampton, First Landing State Park commemorates the spot where English colonists first landed in 1607. Today, it’s a beautiful place to enjoy nature. For a unique camping experience, consider renting one of the park’s yurts. The Colonies RV and Travel Park
The Colonies RV and Travel Park is situated just a few miles outside of downtown Hampton at historic Fort Monroe. The campground has 13 RV sites named after the original 13 colonies. Each site comes with water, electricity, and sewage hookups. Additionally, the campground has 10 overflow spots that come with water and electricity hookups. If you’re doing some tent camping, you have your choice of open or protected areas where you can pitch your tent. Other amenities at the campground include a playground, a general store, a swimming lake, and a game area.
False Cape State Park
If you’re looking for a place where you can escape the hustle of the city and reconnect with nature, travel approximately 42 miles south of Hampton to False Cape State Park. Tucked away between the Atlantic Ocean and Back Bay, this state park is one of the last undeveloped spots along the Atlantic coast. The park offers primitive camping in four distinct areas: False Cape Landing Ocean, False Cape Landing Bay, Barbour Hill Ocean, and Barbour Hill Bay.
Virginia Beach KOA
Virginia Beach KOA is a family-friendly campground located about 32 miles south of Hampton. No matter what type of camping you’re interested in, you’ll find it here. If you have your own RV, the park has pull-through and back-in campsites that come with either full hookups or water and electric hookups. If you want to camp, but you’re not in the mood to rough it, you can stay in one of the deluxe cabins. These cabins come with a full bathroom, a partial kitchen, beds, cable television, and linens.
Davis Lakes Campground
Davis Lakes Campground is conveniently situated about 36 miles southwest of Hampton, which makes it the perfect place for a relaxing getaway. The campground’s beautiful, natural setting offers plenty of opportunities for fun. You can choose either a campsite or a cabin. During your stay, you can also spend some time fishing, swimming, and paddling on the campground’s three separate lakes.
