Named in honor of Crispus Attucks, the first African-American patriot to lose his life in the 1770 Boston Massacre, the theater was designed by architect Harvey Johnson. When the theater opened in 1919, it showcased a host of legendary performers, from Duke Ellington and Nat King Cole to Redd Foxx.
